Making Columbia State Community College Better

Columbia State Community College offers a wide variety of programs. However, the college has a lack of available online programs. Today, many adults are going to college to earn degrees. However, it is hard for parents and working adults to regularly attend classes. Offering more online classes and programs would give these adults the chance to earn their degree while still doing their daily activities. As a result, many adults will find better jobs and be able to better support themselves and their families. This change would not only benefit students, but also the college. If Columbia State offered more online programs and more on campus programs the school would receive more students. Because of this rise in popularity, Columbia State would earn more money overall. Making more programs available and offering more online programs would benefit Columbia State Community College and the community.

Do libraries have value?

Today technology is rapidly advancing. Now, individuals can do about anything online from shopping to watching the latest movies. New technology advancements are allowing for information to be obtained more easily. However, these new online features worry traditionalist. People are concerned that the need for libraries could be completely abolished. The Web does offer some great features, that a library may not. One of the biggest perks of the Internet is its high speed. Now, instead of combing through books, you can simply type in a few words and find what you need in a matter of seconds. Also, the Internet is a great way to research certain products. Before purchasing a product, individuals can read through reviews and tips from other buyers. The amount of information provided by the Web is endless. On the other hand, libraries also hold great value. Libraries are a great use to those who do not have Internet access. Also, libraries serve as a great place for students to gather to quietly discuss assignments. Libraries are not only a good sources of information but they also support social interaction. Overall, both the Internet and libraries provide communities with an abundance of valuable services. Whether you prefer the web or the library, your educational, social, and even your downtime needs will always be met.

If I could only choose one social media platform

If I could only choose one social media platform I would choose Facebook. I would choose Facebook for the following six reasons:

. You can stay in contact with friends and family all over the world.

. You can promote a business on a business page and keep your personal page personal.

. I think Facebook is easier to navigate over all the other social media platforms.

. Statistics say that Facebook is the most widely used social media platform used today.

. Facebook allows you to spread news and announcements fast and easy with one simple post.

. Facebook allows you to set up events and send invitations out through the event page. This also allows people to RSVP to your event.

Whenever possible deliver bad news face to face

You should always deliver bad news face to face when possible for the following reasons:

  • face to face delivery is the most respectful way to deliver bad news
  • face to face delivery provides a more personal and less evasive approach to delivering bad news
  • you can have a face to face meeting as casual of formal as needed or wanted to make the situation more comfortable
  • it allows you to see the immediate reaction to the bad news which allows you to address any problems immediately
  • face to face delivery gives you immediate feedback

It is always better to use face to face delivery of bad news when possible than other methods for all parties involved.

Business Persuasion

A lot of businesses enlist celebrities to advertise their products. By doing this, they are persuading you, the consumer, to buy their products by showing you beloved celebrities, like Ellen, to sponsor their products. If Ellen is using these beauty products, then they must work, right? Wrong, they are about as useful as the cheaper products. The only thing better with this product is the business’s profit off of the consumer, making this an important business tactic for the up and coming business owner.

Thank you notes after interviews

You should always send a thank you note after job interviews because it does the following:

  • impresses employers with your follow through
  • shows courtesy toward the interviewer
  • shows your understanding of professional courtesy
  • conveys your interest in the position
  • provides you an opportunity to get back in front of the employer again, in case you have faded from the memory of an employer who met too many people too quickly
  • allows you to introduce information that you neglected to mention in the interview
  • demonstrates your skill at written (or emailed) communications
  • meets your competition so you don’t lose an opportunity simply because your competitor sent a thank you

It is always smarter to write a thank you letter than to rely on first impressions.

Social Loafing and How to Prevent it

Social Loafing is the phenomenon of a person exerting less effort to achieve a goal when they work in a group than when they work alone

According to Karima Mariama-Arthur, there are 3 ways to prevent social loafing. One simple strategy to prevent it is to keep the group small. Another strategy is to develop the rules of engagement. Set up ground rules at the beginning of the assignment so each member will be aware of their responsibility and cause less conflict. One final strategy you could use is to assign separate and distinct contributions for every team member. Each team member would have their own task and have to rely on themselves to get their individual tasks done, which will make sure each team member picks up their own slack.
